DECONSTRUCTED // RECONSTRUCTED features new works which explore the connection between art and architecture and give Venetta Nicole’s signature abstract style a new dimension by working with wood. Taking inspiration from London’s skyline, Venetta cuts Basswood into abstract shapes, experiments with painting, staining or embracing the wood’s natural grain, and then assembles the pieces into layered patterns, turning the canvas to constantly change her perspective and create depth. The result are energetic abstract structures floating off the canvas.
These structures sit alongside acrylic, oil pastel and charcoal canvases which vibrate with movement, an energy achieved by using harmonious patterns, symbolic motifs, intentional composition and a bold, bright colour palette.
Fusing Abstract, Expressionist and Pop Art, and working with mixed and versatile mediums, Venetta has honed a style and visual language characterized by freedom.
Venetta Nicole graduated with Honors in Visual Communication Design at Middlesex University. She has created bespoke pieces for the NHS, showcased her work at Sadlers Wells Theatre and Lauderdale House Gallery, and won the Susan Angoy Award.
